Welcome to the World Championship Barbecue-Cooking Contest. This year our festival is filled with great delights - wonderful performances, free events, and lots of fun - as well as workshops, master classes and informative demonstrations.
It is a special year for us, one in which we have focused on the World Championship Barbecue-Cooking Contest mission not only to bring nationally and internationally renowned artists into our midst, but to give back to the community through free events and community partnerships designed to showcase local artists.
The Contest is set to enrapture festival lovers once again. Our venue will leave you fascinated, captivated and enthralled. With performances ranging from classic to contemporary, traditional to avant-garde, each act will inspire you to greater heights.
World Championship BBQ-Cooking Contest This event claims to be the largest pork barbecue-cooking contest on Earth. They call it the "Superbowl of Swine," and then perhaps over-egg the metaphors by continuing "The College of Pig Knowledge" and "The Grandaddy of Grills." It takes place on Tom Lee Park as part of the annual Memphis in May conglomeration of festivals. Vegetarians, you have been warned!
The competition offers more than US $60,000 in prize money, so the stakes (or should that be steaks?) are high. The park is the site for not only the competitive cook-a-thon, but also entertainment on the main stage. These include world-class music and the Ms Piggie contest, sporting grown men in snouts and tutus (?!).However, woe betide anyone who thinks they don't take their competitions seriously down south.…...more!
